Which weed is a perpetual issue in your patch? Environmental conditions, soil type, nutrient levels and region are all a factor in which weeds are a constant issue. I'm curious as to how things differ from garden to garden.

Here, it seems like I'm constantly dealing with plantain, purslane, spurge and ragweed off the drainage ditch; as far as broadleafs go.

This year marestail has been a nightmare in our region for cultivated crops.

Pigweed is probably the worst. Beside being so prevalent, the pollen really bothers me and some of it gets nasty spines. My garden is creek bottom, a lot of silt and a little sand. Foxtail used to be real bad, but it hasn't been a big problem the last 5 years or so.

Nutsedge, Horseweed, Ragweed and lots of crabgrass. There are many others I don't have the ID for.

Pigweed is number one. Followed by Crab Grass and Nutsedge. I always end up getting Purslane after adding green waste compost from our landfill. You have to take care of them before they go to seed.

Galinsoga has become the worst weed in the patch.

Galinsoga was real bad. It got started when I used Preen on beans and tomatoes. It thought it was fertilizer. Mulching helps, plus it is easy to pull.

Galinsoga is by far the most prevalent weed I have, which is nice because as mentioned it is easy to pull. Ragweed and Lambsquarter are the other two broad leaves I have mainly. Anything beats grass in the patch, which has finally subsided after years and years of torture.

Galinsoga also called quick weed because the seeds start growing before they hit the ground., I see it in many growers diary post throughout the season. It can be easily pulled or killed with roundup. However each time it rains or the soil is disturbed a new crop grows. When you can't walk amongst the leaves it takes over. I didn't let any thing grow in my patch last year (patch rested). It didn't seem to mater had a huge crop this year. If you find a way to eliminate it let me know.

Really good thread. Seeing as how many of us spend a lot of time "weeding" in one way or another.
I'm glad I don't have marestail. Just read about it! I was thinking it might be the same as horsetail, but it is different.
My favorite weeds to hate are;
Horsetail, Equisteum, both field and giant.
Buttercup, Ranunculus
Chickweed, it's everywhere, Stellaria media
Sorrel, Rumex acetosella
Of course there are dandelions, plantain, Galinsoga, burdock and thistles. Crab grass is the ultimate pain to control. Did I mention clover and stinging nettle? Blackberries?

When I bought my house the front yard was infested with Morning Glory. I am still trying to get rid of it 8 years later. It loves the fresh tilled pumpkin patch. It grows like crazy and will send out roots 10 feet long and pop up a new sprout. The only way to get rid of it is to pull up the whole root or it will just come back stronger than before.

Captain.
We had some morning glory here on our property when we first got it. Not long after moving here I saw a garden that had been let go for a few years. The morning glory had taken over, literally up to the top of some apple trees. I went OCD on it and started pulling ever little vine of it from the area it was in. It took a few years but this year I only found a couple little threads of it. So I hope I am getting close to having won that one. It is a pain.

I have only had one problem weed for years. Stinging nettle. I am pretty sure it came in with my cow compost as I can already see it growing on the heep befor I spread it out. Gloves are a must.

I see all of these types of weeds and I feel remorse.
Compost not properly made, I believe is the strongest source of invasive weeds. I'm not an advocate for regulation, but if you saw municipal practices, most of us growers would be disgusted.
