Today I gave away a 798 lbs fruit for free (to our local kindergarten), the smiles of the kids and their parents were an excellent kind of compensation.

I'm delivering 2 of my small pumpkins to the grocery stores in Anamosa and Dyersville next week. I'm only charging them about $0.20 per pound. I don't mind giving them a break, especially the Anamosa store. They lost a lot of business when Walmart opened the bigger store. They are having a guess the weight contest and plan to let the winner have the pumpkin if they want it otherwise I can have it back. The one at Anamosa will be on display during Pumpkinfest, just a block east of the weighoff site. If it had been Walmart the price would have been a lot higher.

Last year I gave my 800est to my neighbor to feed his pigs. In return he gave me some of the best pork ever. I wouldn't of excepted his money anyway if he offered. Porkchop, now that was funny.

I donated a 1005 # last year to a local, small grocer who features local meats and produce. She gave me two $20 gift certificates for our local contest. Nicest thing of all: I got to see my kin in front of the store for three weeks every day I drove to work. Retrieved the seeds and the meat went to her pigs. All in all I was very happy. I am not putting down anyone who can get 0.50 or a buck a pound, but I am still in this hobby for the fun and I am more than glad to help a local, small businesswoman.

My pumpkin will go on display at the entrance of Lowes after the weigh off. Any money raised from it will be donated to charity. They would like me to make up some sort of sign telling about the pumpkin and the seed it grew from and such. Who knows, maybe it will draw a few more into the hobby.

Darren C. I really don't know squat. About how to find your direct email. Believe me I tried. I'm lucky I figured this site out. Would you be so kind as to just calling me? Anytime day or night. As this is of great importance. (402)813-8744 Rob...

My mom always told me that most people who say "it's only money" or "there are more important things than money" usually already have plenty of money. If you are starting a family like I am, you'd be doing your family and yourself a great disservice by not getting what you can for your pumpkins. I produce a premium product and I sell it for a premium price.
