They lost their big one to a soft spot. I'm really sorry to hear, I hope you can still get it weighed. Pumpkin growing can be cruel sometimes.

Sorry to hear that guys. It hurts losing a big one so close to the end. What a cruel sport this can be. I know, we just lost a 1724#er on Aug 31st. We were lucky that there was a weigh off we could attend a couple weeks later to get an official weight on it. It's a now a new unofficial PB for us, but they don't really count in the long run. Hopefully you have another decent pumpkin in the patch. Good luck my friend. Jane & Phil

Still the best looking kin, in my opinion, this year, and fun to watch grow. Sorry for their loss.

Sorry for the roller coaster, I really did think it was too deep at first. We were so in shock it took a while to get a grip on the fact that it was still legal if less than 3 inches. So we got the tape measure and a probe out and It turned out the soft spot was only 2.75 inches deep!!! and it didn't get worse after we cut it out.
Thanks to Rob Valentine and Rusty Ortman (and Teresa) who all 3 told me it wasn't too late and it would make it there without getting worse.
We were really glad there was a weigh off close enough to attend, and really glad we caught it before it was too late.
