I've read some recent posts, and some say leave on vine and some say pull and keep cool. My pumpkin is orange and around 500 lbs, so just a porch pumpkin. The pumpkin, stem, and main are healthy, but the leaves are old, brittle, heat and PM damaged, expect them to last another 10 days. How long should I keep on vine, do I continue to water, or should I pull in 2 weeks and keep cool?

Is it still growing? If so, leave it on until you get no increase. I like to put a stick one fingers width from the side...that way I know if its growing or not....

Wiz, maybe growing a couple lbs a day. I can keep the bottom dry. Should I still continue to fertilize/water?

Water it a bit...but we don't want any rot... I gotta keep mine growing too for another 4 weeks...so I continue to do what I have been all year...but twice as much...lol Gotta keep up with LMP,JS, MS BiZ and the bunch...

Kurtis, Keep it on the vine. make sure to keep it shaded and dry. Go ahead and remove dead or rotted leafs/stalks. Water as needed, if still fertilizing use very small amounts. Most important!! Inspect the pumpkin every two or three days for signs of bad spots. It's helpful to use a mirror to look underneath stem and along bottom edge of the pumpkin. If you see any sign of rot starting, take steps to stop it. Good luck, see you at Uesugi farms. Ron Root

If you can put a pallet under it while its on the vine it will last a very long time. Once it is picked, as long as it is on a pallet with air flow underneath it will last until it freezes solid, which will be a long time in California :-)
