my plants are in bad shape, and I am fighting stem rot on my largest , my weigh off isn't till the 3 of October, if I would cut it now and keep in a cool basement would that be better than leaving it on the vine to possibly do more damage?

I'm dealing with the same thing and have done it before. If you can probe the stem and meet no resistance it's time to cut and put a fan on it.

I've had one of the vine for 3 weeks before and still made it to weigh off. it sat in the patch I just kept applying straight 27% peroxide to the stem (it was rotting off) and then applying sulfur. It made it to the weigh off with no stem at all left. This year I am dealing with the same issue. I have a 575 wolf sitting in my front yard with 1/4 of the stem left hoping to make it to Topsfield October 2.

Ron, I looked at your diary link you posted. With that stem looking normal on the outside as you say, how did you discover that the inside was rotting? Any tell tale signs we should be looking for?
