Subject: when to end main vine

Terminated all side vines on my plant but still have main growing.Kin is making good gains every day and have 16 days left til weigh off.My question is should I end the main?

In 2011 I had a pumpkin slow down extremely fast after I had terminated the last vines, whereas the other pumpkins (on plants with a limited number of growing tips) did continue to grow as usual. The water and sugars used for the production of another 1 or 2 ft of vine probably don´t lower the gains of your pumpkin significantly, but the hormones produced by the vine tip might stimulate the whole plant to be more productive.

I talk with one of the best out there. When he told me he still had the 4 secondaries behind the pumpkin growing full speed and the main out over 80 feet, I about crapped myself! He told me,,,, if you have the room,,,,,, keep them growing....
And yes, always great advice Pumpking!!:)
