I have a good sized pumpkin, which I hope to get to a weigh off in the next couple of weeks. We are going to get a good amount of rain today. I was thinking about cutting some vines so that it doesn't take in too much water. It has big ribs so splitting is a concern. I would rather get it to the weigh off than take a chance at losing it. thanks

How old is the fruit? Until 50 or 60 DAP (with still good daily growth rathes) the excess water could make troubles, but if the pumpkin has already slowed down significantly and is older than 60 or 70 days, then I wouldn´t expect the rain to boom your pumpkin (it might still do so, but most likely in cases where the pumpkin would develop a hole or split under all sorts of conditions even when growing slowly...things that happen to pumpkins with deep ribs and Dill rings). My recommendation would be to try the all or nothing strategy. Would you want to stop a racehorse because you are concerned it could break a leg?
