Due to concerns over transfer of the GPC scoring system to a 3 fruit of your choice scenario, we are postponing this until next year and the MAGPG is putting the $ back into individual categories. We are happy to accept all GPC varieties this year as follows: Squash- 1st place $300 2nd $100 Field pumpkin 1st place $200 second $50 Watermelon 1st place $200 second $50 Long gourd 1st place $100 Tomato 1st place $100
We hope to see a lot of entries at doylestown this year, see you there Saturday September 26!

Is GPC really going to change to 3 fruit in any of the 6 categories? I hope they ask for a little input from growers first? I like the current 5 out of 6 and if I can grow them in my little backyard then most growers can. I think it would be a shame to water it down more.

No John, there are no changes to the GPC MG scoring. 5/6 like last year.
Jim was trying to say that he was thinking of a way to convert our scoring to a mini version for their local needs.

Thanks Andy. I think the challenge of growing and getting to the scale 5 different fruits is worthy of the master gardener award. I wish we could get more growers doing it as well.

Lol yes this was just for our local contest. We were going to do $500 for the best 3. But when you reduce the # of varieties and don't specify what 3 they are, the scoring system gets skewed too much. Like if you have a 43 inch long tours and you score big because there were no other tours entries. Just an example, it works the opposite way too. We will put on our thinking caps in the offseason and hopefully offer another fun prize category at doulestown next year.
