I hope you growers on the coast are okay. It's really unfortunate that mother nature has to be mean towards the end of the season.

Our city took a beating along with parts of the State of Washington...some growers reporting patch damage and others not so much...thanks for thinking of us. Back to normal now after a couple days without power...500,000 people were without power in Vancouver...

I'm still without power. 48 hours and the power guys say it won't be for another 24 hours. Threw out the spoiling food in the fridge and took the still good stuff to the in-laws place. Vines look like heck, but the kins survived.

My power just got turned on we were out for 62 hours. We got hit really hard where i live. Trees down everywhere, Power lines laying across the roads, I have seen two car storage tents in the ditch.
My patch got beat up pretty bad 50% of my big leaves are gone, snapped off half way up the stock most of them flew into my neighbors yard. It looks like someone was running post route in my patch. A huge branch flew into the middle of one of my plants. And since the rain has been coming down we had more rain this week then we had in the past 4 months. The long forecast is looking bleak with no sun and more rain. I am glad i flushed my soil before the flood of rain came to reduce the chance of splits.
I think every outdoor pumpkin grower is always dealt different cards it adds to the challenge and excitement of growing giant pumpkins.
For me it's a lesson, I need to plan better for next year and have a higher barrier for wind protection. I am glad it's near the end of the season when my growth has already come off and it won't affect me that bad all things considering.

Translation... "I'm so far ahead of Glenn & Dave, I won't need that extra 30 days of growth in September"

I was lucky ....the storm narrowly missed my patch ! The only way I'm going to gain ground on Glenn and Scott is to push. Push my plants hard. Fertilizer every other day. Checking EC. Checking pH. Checking total rain fall. Checking, checking. and more checking. And pushing for 33 more days until weigh off.Last 3 days..2.37 inches rain fall. My patch is flushed! Time to start adding more stuff to replenish the flushing. Potassium and solubor ....my new weapons of growth!
