This is my first year using Epsom Salts as a result of a soil test and help understanding it. I was initially advised to apply at 2 tbsp. per gallon once a week because of my soil test. About 30 days into the pumpkin growth I noticed that after 2 days I was getting decent results, but the next 2-4 days the growth rate went down, so, I decided to foliar spray every 2 days and have seen the growth rate stabilize.

What is your experience with Epson Salts?

At what rate did y9ou apply it?

Any and all input would be greatly appreciated.

thanks,
owen

I hit it once per week foliar 1 TBL Spoon per gallon. I only drench it early on when the soil temps are still cold.

Hi Owen, we use it (if the soil test shows we are low on Mg) in the spring tilled in with the other amendments and then again in our tank for overhead watering usually starting mid July...so I guess some of it gets foliar applied too. We've never spray pump foliar fed for fear of burning, which I guess isn't happening for you or the Wiz.

Epsom salts is part of my program with our soil running at 30% sand it readily leeches after our winter rains. We also apply about the same amount of granular Kmag at the sa,e time in the spring.

Owen. one note about this. If you are spraying as a foliar, or adding to soil, a Cal/Mag supplement, you need to think if you are already getting enough Mg. And like Glenn says, soil parent material has a lot to do with sulfur content and how that soil holds other nutrients.
I have found in my gardening groups that Epsom Salts have almost a cult like devotion, especially among Rose growers. I am constantly explaining that it isn't magic, it is MG and S.
