Is it normal for an AG to ramp steadly in growth up to 39lb in 24 hrs to 7lb overnite i see no splits in this one and was only watering when needed no ferts.first year grower any help much appreciated

most likely its daily ott tape try every 3-5 days then average gains

Yes you could slip with the tape or be in a rib or valley. Maybe the day earlier you were a bit too much tape then less the following day.
Save yourself stress and measure once or twice a week.

Also cooler temps in Ontario will reduce weight gains. Blanket your pumpkins at night

I beg to disagree with you. There is only 1 measurement that is important and that's the last one at the weigh off. Part of the joy of growing AG's is watching it grow. Measuring is part of that joy and seeing a 45 lb day is exciting. Accuracy is not important. I measure twice a day sometimes. What's more fun than a 45 lb day....22 1/2 lbs in 12 hrs! Cheers

Hey whatever floats your boat. I don't know why anyone would bother measuring twice a day, but if that is fun for you....go for it. Just be forewarned that when you call your buddy and complain that the pumpkin "only gained 15 Lbs last night" .... He is not really listening to you.
