as you have probably noticed from my diary's over the years i am a fan of kelp-seaweed.It helped grow my 1811 and the 247. Was it used to grow any of last years top ten pumpkins? I doubt it. It is loaded with trace minerals, stimulates microbes and bacteria, releases growth hormones. It also raises organic matter and is a great soil conditioner. My plants always look very healthy so i will continue to use it in my patch! I only have to travel a few hundred yards and i have access to all the seaweed i want at no charge. Is it worth the hassle for you??? I guess if you have all kinds of time it would be! I do know many gardeners in this area that have used seaweed only in their soil and grow the most beautiful vegetables year after year.

Carl, when I was a kid (in the 60's) once a year after a storm Dad would take us to the beach and we'd collect bull kelp blown in from the storms. We'd fill the trunk of our 1952 Dodge and come home to chop it up and make a pile next to the composer....ah the good ole days.
Now most growers just buy it in 50 kg bags as kelp meal and apply it in fall and spring. I'd bet all the top 10 pumpkins used liquid kelp and kelp meal in their soil.
