Why would the 1317 throw such different color fruit? OneZ BIG Orange, another pure white...? Is orange and white closely related in the gene pool?

I've grown the 2009 twice. Cream the first year, orange the second. My 1123 also throws both colors. I've had the 1495 go orange and white.

Very interesting to say the least...My 2009 is white white... yet the 359 super orange but grows like the 2009.. I find it amazing on how certain traits show up and how choosing the pollinatorZ based on what you would like to merge to next years fruit intriguing.. Would be nice to DNA map this, could we ever be so lucky...to figure it out.

I think the 2009 Wallace is a great one to cross into the big and orange lines as it's offspring seem to throw orange with some really nice size. I predict the future for big and orange will be very competitive with the big and yellow. Could we see a big and orange world record someday?

I agree BIG MOON, that's why I crossed my 1450 Wallace X 1810 Stevens into the 359. The 1450 Paps sent me went shiny orange as the 1450 threw many different colors of offspring... The 1810 was a spitting image of the 1662 Stelts... as well....the 1450 X 1810 cross went 10% heavy the last two years for a grower here that grows 1000 feet higher than me...at 5400'ABS and the shiny orange we crave for us orange lovers. I cant wait to grow it the next year as my 359 is a real stud growing this year in the patch....

Maybe it's off topic but I often wonder. If you pollinate your female with one male from another plant, could the seeds have more consistant coloring and characteristics than if you pollinated with ten males instead from the same plant? Wouldn't there be more chance for more variation in each seed for color, shape, etc? Maybe offspring seed color would be more consistant with one or two male pollination?

Garden Rebel.. You are right on target..There have been many a discussion on how one chooZes your choosen males...Off a main, instead of a side vine...BIG flowerZ.. I think the reason we use 3 iZ due to wanting to make sure we have lotZ of pollen on that special day. Yup every pollen grain is the same, but different... Originally I thought there was multiple pollinators used for the 1317....Was this the case...?? Only one person knowZ for sure... When we map out genetics...this is very important, so we don't taint the gene pool.... A few yearZ back someone, I think it was IceDude that we where noting a plant that had multiple colored fruit on the same plant, it was all very interesting...would love to find that post again to bring it back to the top for discussion...perhapZ a winter project...

the 1495 is notorious for a wide range of color I have seen them green white cream yellow and orange. Since the 1317 was grown off a 1495 that is probably where the predisposition for a range of colors comes from.
