The leaves on this 840 Jutras SQ plant started to curl and turn grey and then brown from the stump and then along the main and out on the first few secondarys. Plant still growing out ok. Two females were pollinated within the last week. Too soon to tell if they will take.
I did spray with Bifen prior to this. 1 tsp per gallon. I don’t think this is the cause.
I put some pix up on my diary. Is there anything I can do to stop this from spreading through the whole plant? I’m thinking I need to keep some tertiary vines to replace the lost leaves. (I started to remove the bad leaves. )
Any advice is appreciated.

A systemic fungicide like Agri Fos might be your only hope if the disease has gone systemic. It looks like your soil is quite moist. I get similar problems and can't get anything to survive unless I use Agri Fos as a preventative. The problem could actually be starting at the roots and then spread to the rest of the plant.

Thanks everyone. Doesn't sound good but I drenched with Daconil already. Will get AgriFos today if I can. If not it might be too late. keeping my fingers crossed that it can be stopped.

Didnt mean to remove all hope.the Agrifos is great stuff.but its best applied before the onset.I hope you beat it.Its worth a try.

Thanks Bubba. We all always have to have hope in growing these things.

To me it looks like Phytophthora. How quick is it spreading? If it is spreading fast then this would indicate Phytophthora. Only way I have kept it somewhat under control is to cut the vine at the second good leaf and rip the rest of the plant out. This is in the plant and by removing portion of the plant you limit the internal flow and can halt the problem.

It's moving fast. The leaves are affected about 5-6' up the main vine. All side vines up to that point are affected too. I've removed all the bad leaves. I'm going to try the Agri-Fos. I was able to get it today and see what happens.

Matt D knows his stuff. I'd listen to him. Try to save part of the plant while you can or watch it die completely.

Best to cut off as Matt says and use Agrifos on the rest. Your best chance to save it.

OK. So I'll lose about 8 feet of plant. Just need to keep burying the side vines that are still growing and pollinate as many flowers as I can. There will be another one opening up tomorrow morning. Sprayed with Agri-Fos a little while ago.
Put up a few new pix showing what's left of the plant after cutting off the bad leaves.

Matt - How should I manage manage the remaining plant? It won't have much more room to grow out.

Hi Steve-

I suggest you keep as many side vines as possible and orient them back to fill in the area. While this may not be an ideal situation still having a plant (even if small) is still better then no plant in my opinion.

Not to be the negative one, but hopefully you have stopped it, some cases I have seen it stopped and other times it has already taken over. Hopefully you caught it early, but feel free to provide me updates and ask questions.

Plant is still growing. I didn't chop the main. Not many leaves left. Keeping all new growth. Fruit is pushing 300lbs. still spraying AgroFos every week on whatever is left.
