What type of fabric is used under pumpkins & where to purchase? Just fabric stores? I have always put a large piece of cardboard under with sand on it. After mice issues last year, a large piece of fabric that I could pull up around pumpkin might help. Thanks.

Dan Hajdas sells some top notch Mill Fabric (in Equipment for Sale message board).
Mill Fabric is a very tough nylon mesh fabric that they use in paper mills. It lets to water down through it, keeps the bugs and mice from eating up through the bottom and is slick to let the pumpkin move as it grows and if you use two layers one person can slide a 500 lb pupmpkin if it needs to be adjusted a little.

I have found that sand is still needed on top of the mill fabric to help it slide better.. Found too many domeZ when just ontop of my red mill fabric.. but no mice can eat their way thru.. Often times I have garden snakes under my pumpkins... they love to eat mice...

if the sand is always wet
is it possible that the pumpkin rot because of wet sand?
