i am having a problem. Both of my plants are producing females but then after a few days after they appear, they start to turn yellow and then shrivel up before they even open up. Does anyone know why this is happening. Also some of the plants secondary vines don't grow, could this be the same cause. I did add some horse manure in the spring that wasn't broken down real great, this may be the reason?

Depending on when you started your plant, it may not be ready to set fruit yet. Generally speaking, for me, it's the 2nd or 3rd kin on the main vine that is first to open.

I've got patches that have had 4"-6" of standing water for over a week and all the females are developing perfectly normal. Just raised them up with boards. May still be your problem or your Phosphorus/Pottasium numbers are nill. Good Luck!!

Yes, rain wiped my patch clear off the map this year. While I still had plants, I did have 2 females open, but neither took and they were selfed with plenty of pollen. I think the best advice is to hope for less rain, and females will open when the plant is not stressed.
