Farming- a bunch of catastrophies that result in a lifestyle
|
Hi guys. Finally got plants big enough to warrant using my SR 200. It works fabulous, however I definitely did something wrong as my plants got a good dose of spray burn right down the main vine leaf canopy. No changes were made as to mixing up the spray, mixed as per directions on individual spray containers, poured the pre mix into the sprayer, and sprayed. Why am I suddenly getting spray burn? Too close to plants? Does the sprayer concentrate the spray more, thus needing to apply less? What setting on the 'nozzle' are you others using, I had it set on 4. I sprayed till the point where run off was just about to occur. We had temps over 100 the next day, but I misted 3 separate times that day, heavily. Any advice here would be greatly appreciated, I haven't had spray burn in years!

normally less needed than using pump type sprayer you added water half full or so in tank THEN add chemicals? or else first liquid in the clear hose will be stronger with less or no water mixed also time was hopefully after dusk when sprayed?

Don's right make sure you fill that tank with a gallon of water before adding the chemicals. If you didn't do that, the first plant you spray will have burn for sure.

I pre mixed the spray in gallon jugs, then poured it into the spray tank?

Well, unfortunately, we get these temps all summer, and not spraying isn't an option. I was really hoping someone could help me on this. I spray just before dark too.

I'm sorry you feel like no one is helping you. Every post on here is pretty spot on base on my experience.
We have sprayed with a stihl for years and the only time I have caused burn is when I mix something too strong, spraying on flagging leaves or too early and sun hitting leaves.
If you didn't mix anything too strong that would cause the burn, use anything that shouldn't be mixed, didn't have anything already in the sprayer (in the hose like don suggests) then that is the only conclusion any of us can draw -- especially looking at the picture in your diary (linked below) which clearly shows sun hitting leaves. http://www.bigpumpkins.com/Diary/DiaryViewOne.asp?eid=239993
you cant spray with the sun hitting the plants. Most products have a temp range to spray listed on the lable, and it generally is not above 75.
I hope that helps.

I went in chat and we figured it out. Thanks anyway CB. We covered all the things mentioned here, and as I'm not new to spraying plants or pumpkins, it took a little figuring. Thanks a lot.

Basically boiled down to what I did correct: Sprayed in evening Pre mixed in seperate containers Used correct amounts of chemicals VS one unknown and mother nature: People using this type sprayer have found that you need to spray the ground on initial start after filling tank as chemical can concentrate in line after you fill tank. Correctable action in the future use. Mother nature and her over 100 degrees heat. Not much to be done about heat here, as it regularly is this hot in July and August.

im glad you figured it out, it sucks to have spray burn and not know how to stop it from reoccurring.
For what its worth, spraying with the leaves flagging and the sun hitting them like is in that picture (http://www.bigpumpkins.com/Diary/DiaryViewOne.asp?eid=239993) has been a problem in my patch especially if I was spraying something "hot" like neem oil.

"LB Farming- a bunch of catastrophies that result in a lifestyle Neem is a great spreader sticker- like any oil based product, use it in conjunction with your other sprays near sunset. I t has the added benefit of being an insect and fungicide as well."
Good luck.
