Hey all....I finished my early season last month. Being in the desert, I don't get much access to leaves, and when I do it is in mid December. Our patches are inactive now....can we use any of these tilled into the patch in place of leaves?...Timothy Grass Pellets, Alfalfa Timothy Cubes or pellets, Beet Pulp shreds, Alfalfa Oat cubes....do I have to worry about seeds?

The feed store should be able to source organic alfalfa meal, that's one of my favorite soil amendments. There's also kelp meal, fish meal, etc...these are used to feed animals as well as soil.

Aren't alfalfa pellets just pressed alfalfa meal?...I have built compost piles with leaves from December every year over the past 5 years...just wanted to add more to the soil...

Do you think they would list the salt in the ingredients on the bag?

If you're getting them from TSC, contact Sandlee and ask them if they add salt to the pellets. From experience with feeding the pellets to animals; I soak them in water before feeding them and they tend to keep their shape and are very hard to break up in my finger tips. I would caution against using the pellets and go for the cubes; soak them so they break up; otherwise they will stay in their form.

Yes, from TSC....they just opened one 5 miles from my house! I used to drive 25m one way to get to the closest. I saw the cubes, but thought the pellets would be easier to spread.
