I'm noticing that there's more to suns burnings then just being hot out . I came home from work on an 80° day outside and two of my plants suffered severe son scalding. But three of the other plants didn't suffer any and all five of them are all from the same parent the 1399 . so I'm curious about the cause must be soil conditions or even the fertilizers that I added that weekend to cause these plants to get sunburned . Maybe there at addition of nitrogen or other Fertilizers . I used to think it was one plant of different seed parents being more susceptible to son burnings then another plant . But now I know that the same seed parent can have different responses depending on how they're fertilized or the soil that there in . Any other ideas or experiences on leaf burn after the application of certain fertilizers

I hate that Darren. I made 31% shade in 20' X 5' pieces that I put up on both sides of the plant. Its a little extra work Darren but your leaves will thank you later in the season.
This far south we can burn leaves at 70 degrees from the angle of the sun.

Another cause of leaf burn is that the pumpkin plants roots are not big enough yet to support the leaves. Once the vines really establish there own roots you won't see it as bad. I have had some big problems with leaves wilting and burning this year. Give the plants a little extra water in the heat of the day. The water evaporating off the leaves will keep damage down and hopefully the plant will adapt and do fine. One more thing we have to remember is that the sun is stronger now than it is at any other time during the growing season. It isn't just the heat that makes plants wilt, it's the suns rays. Compacted soil and high salts will make them wilt for sure. Also if you have voles eating or tunneling under the plants. (they have ruined my melons before.)
