I was just talking to a grower who mentioned that some growers believe that some of us who have success at what we do "just get lucky.". If you ask me, it is all about hard work and doing the right things. And then doing some more hard work. The only luck I seem to get is BAD luck, like when I lose a big one. I don't believe in luck.

Ok, after thinking about it a little more, I'm pretty lucky to live where I do, to have the grower support network that I have, to have the contests that we have here to take our pumpkins to, and to have a family that will put up with me doing the weird things that I like to do. I'm pretty lucky.

You can't avail of good luck without being thoroughly prepared, but on the same token, many people have been known to work hard all year and still have nothing to show for it at the weighoff. Irrespective of "luck", there's definitely an element of chance involved... but it's only a piece of the puzzle.

I think we generate our own luck by our hard work & positive thoughts.I have won more raffles at the bowling alley then anybody I have ever met.I tell people Im going to win!I think positive.The power of positive thinking.Then the hard work begins you have to bowl the strike or 21 pins in 3 throws in black jack.They say you Lucky bastard!!I dont believe in luck.I believe in the power of positive thinking!!I think I will go grow a new US record this year.Look out John Hawkley here I come!!Call me crazy Most people do!Think Big! Good luck has nothing to do with it, weather maybe. We've had a cold wet start to this seaon and my plants are half the size as past years.

Hi Russ Benie grew 3 pumpkins last year three world records the good news for all of us growers is that it isent luck allough a little dosen't hurt. We are treating 3 of our 6 pumpkins this year with 100 ppm ethrel 48 hrs after pollination so fingers crossed

There's nothing lucky about your pumpkin growing. A grower couldn't be more dedicated to the sport than you. Every year you improve on the knowledge gained from the previous season. What luck that can be attributed to your effort is the luck that the rest of the growing community has with your membership.

Vineman, I know what you are talking about and those talking are the people that are in the AC while I'm going to my 3rd shirt and 2nd hat of the evening,every evening. It's good motivation.
