If merit is taken up through the roots and goes throughout the whole plant shouldn't you be able to just drench the stump area for full protection?

I think, if you want to protect the fast growing vine tips you want to apply near them, also the stump and main so you might as well go over everything.
It takes about 2-3 days to pass into the plant, if you just do the stump by the time it gets to the grow tips it will be pretty weak

I drenched the stump with bonide tree and shrub. same active ingrediant as merit jus tnot the same concentration. Next day it was killing everything. So I don't think you nee to do more than the stump.

You don't need to drench anything. Just mix enough to cover the whole area you want to grow in in a small pump sprayer and cover the ground. You don't even need to get the fit wet really, just enough to see where you have sprayed. The only point of the wAter at all is to transport the insecticide.

I water it around the stump & down the MV .Follow the main vine down the first 10 feet or so.Dont apply to dry soil. You will loose more to evaporation.

Maybe drench was an extreme description. I followed the directions for a bush because of the size of the plant and used that amount around the stump as directed.

It takes about 8 ounces of the tree and shrub formula to cover 1000 sq ft. When I spray it I set my sprayer for a real coarse spray so it doesn't drift. And I'm careful to avoid getting it on me, I wear rubber boots so I don't have it get on my feet, and I shower and wash my clothes right after using it. I don't let my son use it; no sense having both of us handle it. I just wish there was a safer, effective alternative.

Merit active ingredient Imidacloprid does not go through skin easily but it can cross the lining of the stomach and especially the intestine when it is eaten. It can cause skin or eye irritation, dizziness, breathlessness, confusion, or vomiting after exposure to pesticides containing Imidacloprid.
If animals swallow enough Imidacloprid, they may have trouble walking, develop tremors, and seem overly tired.
It's mandatory to wear a respirator make sure your using an Organic Vapor OV Cartridge and also wear goggles to protect your eyes.
I am pretty shocked that Merit 75 wp is available for sale in the US to anyone. This is not a chemical that the average Joe should be playing with.

In my case ( we only have aphids and whiteflies) merit is best applied at 1/8 teaspoon per gallon of water and foliar sprayed on top and bottom of leaves....and only just after sun down.

I agree with Don...I informed my neighbor of the same thing. They were concerned over what was spraying on my pumpkins all the time.

You can never go wrong by reading the label directions, rates, and precautions. It's all right there on the product label.
