What advice is their to remove a live skunk in a live trap ? Check out my diary !!!

I read lately that a good way is to throw a towel over the cage then use a rag soaked in ether. Naptime for the smelly one while you re-locate it.

Take a tarp or sheet and hold it out in front of you so the skunk can't see you. Move very slowly and deliberately as you move closer toward the skunk. Once you approach the trap slowly lower the sheet over the trap. If the skunk starts to lift it's tail at any point, stop and let the skunk relax. Then slowly proceed with things. The skunk won't spray if you move slowly. Once the sheet is over the trap you can carefully peel back the sheet where the trap door is and manipulate the trap to open it. Stay behind the sheet at all times so that the skunk does not see you, it will only see your hands. Prop the door open with a stick, the skunk will walk out when he is ready. You will be fine. I have released many skunks and have not been sprayed yet! Knock on wood!

hold a biggg blanket up as a shield and walk the whole way up to to the trap behind the blanket ducked down then cover the trap haul skunk covered to where its going and tie a string to trap lid and pull open from possible a mile away, that's best plan I got oh and where old clothing in layers in case you woops

I've had to release skunks several times and used the following method.

Get a plastic tarp. SLOWLY walk up to trap with tarp in front of you. The skunk will probably stamp its feet and back up. You are safe as long as the skunk doesn't turn its tail toward you. Keep the tarp up to your chin, just in case. Keep inching up to trap and drop the tarp over the trap, covering the whole trap. Wait for several minutes. SLOWLY, in increments, pull the tarp back so you can reach the door and release the catch, using a coat hanger hook to secure door open.

Step back and allow the skunk to come out. Or you can grab a corner of the tarp, pull, and run.

If the skunk does spray, the tarp will protect you.

Well i went back this evening and can't beleive that the skunk is still in the trap sleeping all day in their.the door is wide open so im sure he will wakw up tonight and walk out i hope !!! If not,bubba could you come buy and grab him buy the tail and give him a few smacks on the ass and tell him to never come back !!! Im not the man that you are i could really use your expertese on this one. (-;

I'm with big moon.. I met a fella who removed pests for a living .. He told me just walk up with a sheet calmly .. Talk like you would talk to a kitty cat...place sheet over and pick em up...that being said, I'd pay the neighbor kid

He's not dead i could see him breathing,i believe they are nocturnal, but i will know for sure tomorrow. I think that harbaugh will help bring the big ten back to a power conference once again.

Thanks everyone for the advice, i was thinking of the same thing with the tarp idea while wearing a suit made of garbage bags like i made, but this was the first time that i had ever caught a skunk and i was wondering how successful people were with that method. Approaching the cage and opening it, is all im willing to do for now, i don't wont to push my luck by picking up the cage and moving it right now.if he is still their in the morning, you may be getting a call bubba. Lol..;-)

Once you have that sheet over it, you can move him wherever you want. That being said, I still would never put one inside a car, I definitely would want my truck. I don't care what people say works. The smell won't go away. The car would be ruined if it sprayed inside it.

I know I'm late to the advice, but a .22 rifle is the only way to go. Make sure your first shot is a kill shot. I know it defeats the purpose of the live trap, but I figure your life trap intentions were another species....

I always wondered if you could shoot a skunk without him releasing the stench ??? I just didn't wont to deal with the smell in anyway if possible and this time everything worked out.i have already caught 2 groudhogs since.

I Should open a wixom michigan peting zoo at my garden !!! So far i have 3 groundhogs 5 baby rabbits a skunk and a baby fawn that i have seen little quarter sized footprints at the entrance of the garden.now i need to get a picture of that little fawn.

Back of the head...just a lite bit higher than where the neck joins the skull. FYI it is effective 90% of the time. A bad shot means the tail raises and it releases its gland.
