Can someone please tell me why my main vine keeps getting horizontal splits in it, and how to correct it. Is it too late? pictures in my diary.

My 1872 Wallace developed horizontal splits in the main between nodes all season (2013). In my case the plant seemed prone to this and we had heavy rains that seemed to force it. If you keep them dry and not buried it should be ok. Mine rotted due to a buried section opening allowing rot in.

It can be caused by a number of things
1. Too much N (growing too fast) 2. Grower error (pushing vine down too fast or moving when cold. 3. It could have twisted in the wind and weakened the vine. 4. Lack of CA availability.
Lack of CA availability can be caused by:
1. Low CA 2. Low boron 3. High P 4. High K 5. High MG
