Anyone in Alberta have a child in grade 6 this year?

The Alberta Grade 6 Provincial Achievement test for Language Arts was written this week by students across the province. My daughter wrote hers on Monday.

The test had a reading which talked about the Smoky Lake Giant Pumpkin Festival. I got a chance to look at it today when I was supervising the test at my school. I think the information in the article was a little dated. It talked about Mary and John Lobay battling for the top spot. It also talked about Eva Lewicki and the late Barry Wood. It also had the top pumpkin weighing in at around 400kg, which is around 880 pounds. I think there's a few growers who have passed that mark a few times lol.

Either way, it was a cute little article the kids had to use to answer questions. I guess our little hobby is now making it into standardized testing lol

My daughter came home yesterday pretty excited telling me about her PAT story and the Smoky Lake Festival. Unfortunately she didn't feel that her real world experience at this event helped her with the test at all :(
