I have two plants growing side by side; same seed. I need to narrow to one plant in the next few days. One is clearly growing faster than the other but the other is showing a vine more yellow. My goal is to get a great Orange pumpkin. both plants are otherwise healthy and seem to be vining out normally. I've read that the yellow vine can indicate orange in the fruit.
Any suggestions/ thoughts? Thanks in advance.

I subscribe less and less to the yellow colored vine theory each year. While I would still consider it a good sign there is no way I'd pull a more aggressive plant from the same seed based on vine color. A lot of my seeds don't grow 100% yellow colored vines but they do produce orange pumpkins.

Agree with Orangeneck on the yellow vine theory not always being accurate.

our first year our vines were predominantly neon yellow (there were some dark green splotches, mostly wher the leaves and vines joined each other and this is the picture of the stump and the pumpkin it yielded.
