Pumpkin plant has a single main stem that looks like a double, Am i wasting my time ?

let it run for 3-4 feet, if/when a single main branches off, pinch the double main that continues and the single will take over. If you are a gambling man, carefully pinch part of the double growing tip...I dealt with this this spring.
