I have a 1882 and a 1529 Akkerman both are great plants and I can only pick one. I do have a spot I have not planted yet. Do I risk it and try to transplant one of them to there or just cull one out?

If you are talking about the 1882 Gehweiler...i would keep that plant it comes from the 1623.5 Wallace can't go wrong there.

How close are they i would not risk cutting the roots of the plant that you plan on keeping just to transplant one of them.

It's always a bad feeling but i would just cull one.

If they are 8 inches apart the roots have grown into each other, so one will need to be culled. A transplant would set both back IMO

I did a transplant late May of 2012 and couldn't get 1 set till August, but that was a brutally hot year... so I'm biased.

I would definitely cull it. 8 inches is way too close. I try to plant a backup 2.5 to 3 ft away in a less desirable position because, hey, it is the backup plan after all.

I agree that 8 inches apart will harm both plants if you try to dig one up.

agree with jale. why disturb the roots of the keeper by trying to dig up a transplant?
just cut the one your not keeping clean at the area where plant base exits the soil
