So much talk about what it takes to grow a giant pumpkin.
I hope all the scientist or whatever take us to a new level.
Funny how the growers that have grown the really big ones have just sat by without saying anything.
This is a hobby, just for fun, when someone attempts to male money from our hobby be careful.
Okay, said enough, grow em big, have fun, don't spend too much money.

I agree Owen, you never get the full story,so what I do is read read read and find the things that are consistant in many of the articles and try that.I try to give advice to new growers and when I find new technics I share them. This will be my last year growing as my body cannot handle me doing much anymore and the pain has taken the fun out of it

It's more about location and weather than science.

Owen you are a man of honesty and conscience, your words carry weight. With all due respect I would say a man who has grown a really big one, on an iceberg, Donkin, has been out there trying to help the person who's is trying to learn. As Linus points out we have a lot of moving parts here which must be coordinated.

Its your ability to think more than 5 steps ahead...like chess.... over time and letting mother nature teach me every wrong move i try to be prepared for each extreme from cold to hot to wet to dry to disease to bugs to fans healing main vines to so may curveballs....
....overtime the curveballs still come but with foresight and pro-active measures you can xo-exist with mother nature and do your best to limit big swings or stress on your plants. Norther Illinois is a rollercoaster ride. Acclimate. Think. Stay pro-active. JD and Dale Marshall taught me this way of thinking out of their extreme conditions.

i agree 100% Owen!!You just never seem to get any kind of input from the growers who have grown the big ones but they are here reading the posts?? I would be interested to know just how many teenagers we have visiting this site?? I sure as heck don't know too many teens willing bust their but in a pumpkin patch for an entire summer. They are the future of this hobby but as the weights continue to climb as do the costs for new info and products i think it will continue to get more difficult to introduce the youth....why do i always have to sound so negative...lol
