If your fortunate enough that people want your seeds. Please take one second to test them. It's a real bummer when you go to file seeds and they are obviously empty husks. I really appreciate all the great friends I have out there who always send me seeds when I ask! Thank you all.

Scott, I hear where you're coming from. I've received seeds in the past that were black with mold, split, and obviously nonviable.
I try not to be guilty of doing that to my "fans". Hopefully people will request replacements if I screw up instead of bad mouthing me.

Generally seeds that are black with mold, but dried properly are still fine, so are the ones are cracked down the side. Little bit of white tip or the seed is only 3/4 full, those are usually fine too. I don't send those to Auctions but usually send them as extras when people ask for one.
5 of 12 starters not coming up sounds more like a starting issue not a seed issue.

Fish. The seeds didn't pass the drop test. They were empty. Scott

I thought I was fairly seasoned to the drop test, and I had a 1674 Marsh that I thought was for sure hollow, never planted, but never threw out. Last year I put it in a peat pot just for the hell of it and to my surprise it geminated so I grew it. It was the lightest seed I have ever had germinate out of hundreds through tests and years of growing. Point is, many growers give out so many seeds, I wouldn't expect them to give a 100% viability rate through the drop test. If people have a problem with that, grow your own cross. I do think seeds that are bought should at least pass the drop test.

Sorry if that came out wrong Scott. I was just happy Marsh sent me 3 seeds that year as a new grower when he probably sent out 1000 others (he grew 3 over 1500 in '10).
Good growing to all.
