I was curious about what growers currently use for insect control preferences for their pumpkin plants. I've often used Insecticidal Soap (for young plants), Eight, and Merit 75WP. Has anyone had any problems with any of those products? Also, any additional suggestions as far as something else to use? I just would like to try to stay up to date on some of the most highly regarded products out there. Thanks!

I start out with garlic powder when plants are young and tender. Later I make some applications of merit for a systemic and eight on the stump and vines. I then spray with bifenthrin if I see cucumber beetles or squash bugs. The only insecticide problem I ever had was when I used some old malathion and burned a few leaves.

If anyone has old Malathion around please take it to your local hazmat recycling facility. Its very toxic to bees and other beneficial insects.
Please. You need your bees!
