not to sound negative and i do find this topic very interesting but as you can see from my diary over the last number of years that i am a BIG fan of seaweed-kelp-kelp meal and i know for a fact that it contributed to the massive gains i had on my 1811 before pollination and after. Confused???? YEP. The 2323Mier was poll at approx 12f and grown on the old Xmas tree pattern. If you terminate a plant just after poll ...how can such a small plant support such a huge fruit??? Please explain for not only me but all other newbies in pumpkin land...lol

I believe there are two different strategies that may be in part causing you some confusion. The cell expansion topic that Russ Landry and Matt DeBacco have written about has to do with causing the pumpkin to increase its number of cells during the first couple of days after pollination. Russ is advising that using kelp prior to pollination will hinder the increased cell development that both Matt and he are proposing. A second strategy proposed by Russ is to terminate all growth tips after you have pollinated. The concept suggests that the plant will then devote all its resources to growing the heaviest pumpkin possible. At the GVGO spring seminar many attendees expressed their concern that the plants would be too small to support growing a large giant pumpkin. I will try Russ's strategy on one of my plants but will likely pollinate the 2nd pumpkin that appears. Hope this helps.

I was told that Beni did exactly that ... Terminated all growth before pollination. Maybe I was told wrong. My plants are only 250 sqft at pollination time which in my opinion is way to small to grow anything bigger than I usually do. Maybe people that can get a 600sqft plant by mid June and then terminate and pollinate can benefit from this method. We will see.

Beni said his plant that grew his 2328?(the one in 2013 with a BES) was grown on a symmetrical plant. Eight secondaries before the fruit and eight after per side -so 32 secondaries total. Its hard to get those secondaries to develop with that kind of pumpkin sucking on the plant. To me that suggests his fertilizing program was very effective.

i think there were pics of Beni raising the kin with pallets on each side.I can tell you that the plant was not terminated after poll.
