I have started early many a season. To watch a plant sit in cold cloudy crappy weeks in May.The plants seem to take off about the 3rd week of May.Then they grow like hell.My plants were small 3 & 4 leafs on May 12th last year & set fruit on June 20th & 22nd.So I will push the plants a little harder this year in late May & early June.Instead of Spinning my tires in the cold mud now.

So still lots of time left to get started.

Just a heads up for newbies

That's crazy Chris. I don't know how you do it. If all goes well, I might be getting one weighed at state fair in August so I should have started even earlier

We are having just a normal spring for a change. Being retired gives me time to replace the electric fence and other stuff wrecked by last year's flood. And I'm raising my long gourd trellis a little more than 2'.

Let me tell you this Luke,,,, I'm just glad I'm in Mississippi for 8 days to keep away from getting things started. Lol

I have guys texting me pics of plants up and some even running and it's killing me!

I'm guessing weather will be the great equalizer this year. After 2011, warm/early starts scare me much more than colder/late starts.

I do not have heating cables or any other heat source in my cold frames.. Last year I started early and it really didn't pan out the way I wanted.. Think I will hold off till about the 22nd to start my seeds this year.. I am not chasing any world records here, this is a fun and stress free hobby for me...

Yes the big rush can be a waste of time if the weather goes to cold cloudy days which is typical around here.John Harnica started his 1865 on May 8th put it in the ground May 15th.So there is still plenty of time to panic!!lol
