I have been growing Giant Pumpkins for 5 years now and am a little confused on how growers in my area are growing plants on 1000 square feet of vine. I run a Christmas tree pattern and use the square foot calculation for a triangle and only get around 400-500 square feet. I would like to know if I am doing the calculation correctly or if there is another method used to measure square footage. Also when getting these large square footage measurements do growers allow side vines to grow off the main vine after the fruit has been selected for growth? Thank you for all the help.

The plant is a xmas tree shape early but ends up a rectangle when the secondaries are all terminated. Patches are typically rectangular shape and you fill the whole thing whether you use a xmas tree pattern or spider etc.A couple of my plots are 25'w x 40'L and I use a xmas T pattern up to the fruit and a spider patter from the fruit on .
