They talked at seminar about selfing. It was stated that.If we all selfed we would end up with the perfect genetics. The winning Kins of 2015 will keep the great genetics.Even though you sometimes will get the webbed foot issues. The ones that come out good will be really good. The alternative is more of a crap shoot then selfing.Ok thats what Bubba heard. So Im speaking in Bubba swang!!LOL
Joe Ailts makes the case in the latest St Croix newsletter that once we have a kin with the characteristics we are striving for we should self it to fix those characteristics. The 1947.5 has great color, shape and size. Joe suggests if we could talk a number of growers into selfing it we could then cross breed the best next year and have a pure line. I know you are considering cross pollination to make it bigger and orange, I for one would be willing to self it. The Bubba Challenge presents the opportunity to get a number of growers on board if interested in this effort. Mark I think the 1947.5 was an important milestone in improving the AC line and we should consider this idea. Your thoughts?
If the winner of the Bubba Challenge is selfed I will add 250$ to the 1st place position & 100$ to the other 3 spots 2nd 3rd & 4th if they are selfed also.(each one)

I have a plan to do a selfed cross this year. I have a 1416 Scherber that I'll self. A little history on it:
1385 Jutras selfed = 1725 Harp 1725 Harp that grew Ron's 2009 selfed = 282 Scherber (clone cross) 282 Scherber selfed = 1416 Sherber (Joe lost this one with a about 3 weeks until weigh-off and it was still growing well and looked just like Ron's world record)
Seems to me that this is the best selfed line we could have going right now.

I totally believe in selfing seeds. But once selfed it should be crossed Look how well all the 2009Xself turned out If I had a 1947.5 I would self it I think it would help keep that color!

I think your right city farmer, but heres the bigg BUTT! Ron & Pap had have years of knowledge behind them picking the 1409 Miller as the male. With everyone picking there cross out of hat the breeding is going all over the place.Leaving it a crap shoot.I will self the 1317 this year.I only grew it once it look what it did.The 1495 X 2009 must have been the perfect mix.But it comes down to the individual seed(so I got lucky)I think the 1317 has a 2200 lber in it.My 1947 should of been 2020 had I not made a few mistakes.Hindsight is 20/20.It only grew 35 lbs a week the last month of growth.Me Bad!Should of been double that for 2 weeks them maybe 35 for the last 2 weeks so thats another 70 lbs on the 1947=2020lbs I hope the 1947 will follow suit & be the cross Ma MA is.If so it will be selfed for sure. Then Bubba hits the ball out of the Park with a 2500 lber!!lol I sinks WE can do it with Beni/Bubba feeding plan! Thanks Beni for sharing!!
