Me an my wife have to put in a water softener! Do I need to bypass some hose bibs for watering the pumpkins or does it matter

I would. The softener puts salt in the water.

Follow your water line if you can. A lot of outside hookups are put in before the softener.

Don't use softend water. That was my first rookie mistake a few years ago, I think my Na levels were above 150ppm if I remember right that following Fall.

if your worried about salt in your water have it sampled,there may be some salt in softener, but for the most is flushed away when it back washes the salt is used to clean the filter media in the softener. so if you let water run a little bit, it should flush out any salt residue. I also have a softener. I do nothing different to the water but fill my tote with it. I hope this helps some.

Most water softeners have a bypass valve. You can just put it on bypass while watering. If the softener is working properly it will NOT have any salt in it. You will use a lot less salt in your softener is you use the bypass.
