Just wondering some different sources of where people by their potassium for soil amending? I have used 0-0-60 Muriate of potash the last 3 years and have had 4 pkns split on me total, plus the salt is very high. All the stores around here only carry 0-0-60, and I will never use that junk again. I have found some 0-0-50 online, but thought I’d ask here first before I order.

Thanks

Have you thought about using potash and other nutrients thru trickle feeding?

I get 0-0-50 SOP from Midwestern Bio Ag, a farm supplier in our area that specializes in organic nutrients but sells other products as well. Maybe check a farm supplier in your area.

Luke greensand is supposed to have a lot of potassium, also sulpomag (AKA langbenite). Most feed stores should have or be able to order you some 0-0-50.

I do what Master P does if needed after tissue test Luke.

" Trickle " or " spoon " feed are key words here.

Thanks for the replies.

I have called 8 places around here and everyone carries 0-0-60, and tell me just to use less.

I bought 0-0-50 from Tom P in 2011, and was wondering where or what everyone else used. Green sand seems low, but I am going to a feed store tonight and will check it out. I might see if they can special order 0-0-50.

I am not sure what trickle feeding is, does that involve drip tape?

Bubba can explain trickle\spoon feeding better then me.

But yes Luke,,,,, I use drip tape for this.

This will be the first year I don't pour the whole bottle in the injectors and set on high flow! lol

Luke,I will be putting small amounts of whatever is needed in my hose end sprayer and spraying over the entire plant in every or every other watering.

Thanks again, plenty of lawn services, golf courses and john deere. The feed\garden place by my house does special order but in 50 pound bags and I don't need that much. I'll find some local somewhere. If not, I'll do Amazon.

I can do the hose end sprayer part, but can't switch over to drip tape now. I start in just over 3 weeks!

Yes the old school hitting them hard & heavy is a thing of the past.Beni has introduced us to the trickle down theory

Does your soil test say you need to add potash?
The trickle feed method essentially gives you total control of your soil during the different growth stages.

I know it's taboo but I didn't get a test. Past tests have always said I needed K so I was just going balanced across the board with NPK cal/mg ratio etc.

I also haven't read anything on what Beni has done. I'm very confused on this trickle down thing, I thought focus was always on soil first then feed later?

Because of heavy shade, I won't be breaking records but still am always open minded on new techniques.

And thanks Bubba and Bill, hope to get your 1317 and 359 respectively to go orange this year.

Yea it's hard to say without a soil test.
But yea you would want to get your soil were it needs to be without over doing it,then adding very light feedings with your watering to keep those levels where they need to be.

Check out FS conserv that is were I get mine... Only place I have found that sells it.... 0 0 50 ... I typically buy in large quanties like 600 to 800 pounds at a time.. I have to call ahead so they can bag it. ...John deer has a 00 38 I think sul po mag. Growth products makes a liquid 00 25... For the spoon feeders. ;)

Hey Luke, I've always used 0-0-50 granular tilled in spring and then again in the fall. We get a lot of rain so things tend to leech. I also do the spoon feeding with liquid 0-0-25 for August and September. Always depends on your soil test but on average for the past few years I've done 10 lbs per 1000 sq ft twice a year. To be fair, I also use KMag mainly for the magnesium it is also 0-0-24 so gets potash in there. I get it in 50kg bags out in farm country where they have agriculture distributors. Love the diary!!

Lol....also about 5 gallons of liquid kelp concentrate per plant per growing season and it has some level of potash in it. Really important is your base saturations...balance is very, very important.

To quote John Vincent (country kid):

The thing to watch is your base saturation calcium. If it is above 75% you may want to consider applying some sulfur to healp soluableize and leach some calcium. I have seen very high PPM Ca with less than 75% Base saturation. If in the 65-75%% range, there is likely no issue.

Optimum Base saturations 4-7% K (Potassium), 13-18% Mg (Magnesium), Ca (Calcium) 68-72%
