Hello everyone. So glad I found this site . I'm not new to farming by no means but this is my 2 nd season trying to grow a big pumpkin and giant veggies .. Something that has drove me crazy .. When I watch you tube videos or read about giant pumpkins. What does the number and name mean when some one refers to a plant? For example. If someone says here is my 149 kent. Or my 289 Clamence. Or my 1732 Dillion?? What's that mean?? Please help explain it too me. Thank u soo much. Brad

I will try. 1,000 Smith 2014 (800Johnson13 x 900Jackson12) 1,000 is the weight, Smith grew it in 2014, he planted the 800Johnson13 to grow the 1,000, when he grew the 800Johnson he pollinated it with the 900Jackson.

A little more simple, the number is the weight of a pumpkin or vegetable your looking at and the name is the grower that grew it.then they may tell you what they crossed it with like richard said. So a 2009 wallace means that mr. Wallace grew a 2009 lbs. Pumpkin.

Last year I grew a 1292 # pumpkin.. I grew it using a 1874 matheson seed from 2013. I pollinated it with a 282 scherber seed from 2013. The seed is called a 1292 scherber 2014. The seeds cross is 1874 matheson x 282 scherber, Look up pumpkin fanatic website go to the tools section. Andy has genetic info on the worlds biggest pumpkins youll quickly get a feel for the geneology
