Does anyone have a line on where to buy Ericoid Mycorrhizae? It was available from PlantHealth in Ore. but they haven't responded to email and their site doesn't seem to have a "buy" feature. It's for the blueberries and rhodos. Thanks

Hi, I will ask Dr. Michael Amaranthus about that and let you know what he has to say.

I talked to Dr. Mike. Sorry to say he has tested different strains of Ericoid Mycorrhizae from around the world and found them to be ineffective on acid loving shrubs and plants such as blueberries & Rhodies.

The old landscaping trick is to steal some soil off the roots of some healthy growing ericaceous plants. Then throw a cup or so of that soil into the planting hole around the new transplants roots. This works well with extremely fussy ericaceous plants that just don't seem to grow when transplanted.

Joel and Big Moon Thanks for the replies. My past experience and method has been to take soil from another area with similar and thriving plants to inoculate new areas. We've known this in bonsai culture even before we knew why! I have found soil from wooded areas seems to give a good boost if ericaceous plants are growing in the area and that seems to be a popular method for home gardens around here. We have some blueberries that have been struggling for a few reasons and I wanted to get them up to speed this year. A friend, who is a super knowledgeable gardener, highly recommended the product from Plant Health LLC, he is convinced it made his blueberries much more vigorous. I read a couple of studies that seem to be favorable. But also, I know it takes some time for the mycorrhizae to establish itself. So it could have been coincidence for my friend and I may have to go to basics and just be more patient. We all love the magic bullet. Joel, do you carry the MycoApply products by Dr. Mike? He has an interesting web site. Thanks again Michael

Yes this is English garden country. We have dozens of rohods around the property. Some are almost 40 years old and are big enough to walk under. The spring show is awesome. With the ridiculously warm winter and spring here they will probably be popping into bloom soon. I have been working garden already. Planted broad beans and peas and potatoes. Even picked last falls beets, a few left over carrots, and made juice the last few days. Been tiling in the compost and cutting grass to make more. Feels like April. I'll try and get my rear in gear and take a few photos for a diary, just to tease you Easterners. We worry more about the plum blossoms falling then the snow flakes, I hate it when they land in my latte. Thinks Donkin, I'll take a look at Joel's site.

Santiam Organics, Dr. Linderman's company, makes ericoid mycorrhiza. Your local hydro shop should be able to order it through distributors like Sunlight Supply.

Hi Michael,
Looks like your getting a lot of good advice. To answer your question, our BioGrow Endo Plus is essentially a little more robust version of the MycoApply. We also have the Soluble Maxx which has 9 species of Endo and many beneficial bacteria all in a matrix of a fine grade soluble seaweed.
Best wishes, Joel
