I put any cheap potting soil with some worm castings, a teaspoon of Jobes Organics fertilizer and a teaspoon of Mykos and put that in the bottom half of the 5" peat pot, then fill the rest with Jiffy Mix. The Jiffy prevents damping off, and the rest gives the seedling a lot of nutrition to get off to a fast start.

We start seeds in seed starter mix from a greenhouse (no fertilizer). They just need moisture and warmth until the roots and true leaves get started, the cots are the food source.
Then we set outside as soon as we can tell which way the first true leaf is going, usually within 5 days of breaking ground.
