What does it mean? I have never pushed a plant. Does it mean just adding as much fertilizer and water without blowing it up? The that must be the trick, slow and steady and push the plant. Thanks, any tricks, methods, things that work for pushing?

Put your hands around the plants stump and use and your muscle to push it out of the ground.
That's how you push a plant you want to cull. ;)

Ah, so if it looks like it ain't growing as well as I think it should, start pushing it around, maybe a kick or two, hmmm.

I always assumed it was later growth after day 30 or so with the pumpkin and using higher potassium. Again, that's an assumption because I have never really had anyone tell me what to use at that phase.

IMHO, its never letting the plant nutrient levels go below a certain level, both NPK and micro. Then If you have something special and can grow 4 plus plants increase, then increase certain fertilizers slowly, more often in lower concentrations based off certain calculations and always remember disease control, You can always rebuild.
But Pap & Ron would be my goo to men for this answer. I also believe genetics play a huge factor, % HEAVY fruit can be pushed a bit harder without likely hood of blowing, also blossom ends and shape of fruit. But I am no expert, we learn more and more every year over winter research, trial and error.

To me it infers being heavy on the gas pedal with fertilizer and soil amendments. Hitting the plant with high nutrients vs. slow and steady wins the race.Same mind set as "I ain't growing for second place".

You know it's too much when you burn up the leaves. This happened to me last year because I didn't shake up the sprayer enough.

Now i know where I went awry, here I've been pulling the plant instead of pushing it all this time. Dammit.
