Might be moving, if I don't 1791 Holland and the 359 Foss. If i move I will determine based on soil quality what genetics I put in the first year. Good luck to all in 2015! Grow em Big!

Big Orange

Fairfield, CT, 06825

1625.5 (x4) Huydic, 2009, 2096, 2323, 1730, 1700.5 Werner Lord willing they all come up. will pick strongest 3 maybe 4 plants if Ican find the land I need with power and water. I see alot of 1916 Barron picks out there... That pumpkin yes is beautiful and amazing, but it looks nothing like any 2009 offspring I have seen, and 20% HEAVY, there is something that makes me feel genetics where mixed up somehow there. It would be a shame. I like to know for sure what I'm crossing with what. Genetics are key and our only way to excel and hit 2500 then 3000 and beyond... I beleieve there is no real ceiling coming anytime soon... It may take years and years in between new WR's but the more we learn about soil structure, feeding, genetics, both %HEAVY and RAPID GROWTH genetics combined I believe the sky is the limit!!! Eventually gravity will kick in but who knows. Greenhouses, 1000 Watt Sodium bulbs/ballasts longer growing seasons, Who knows!!!

Big Orange, wasn't the 1916 grown off the 2009. The pollinator wouldn't effect what the pumpkin looked like until next year or do you think it just wasn't grown off the 2009? I didn't see the 1916 but it could be just an orange genetic in the 2009 showing itself.

BigOrange are you mixing up the orangw 1738 (1730x2009) with the 1916 (2009x1730)?

Ludwig; you're going to attempt to germ a 1998 seed? Am I reading that correct?

Its just my observation. Its the 1916 Barron 2014 (2009 x 1730.5) %20 HEAVY. It looks nothing like any 2009 Wallace offspring/prod I have seen. Pollinator/male will play no factor in this years results.

Hmm... I think it closely resembles the 1626 Hall and 2323 Meier (both 2009 offspring). Polygenic traits such as how heavy a fruit goes are hard to predict, but they can be analyzed statistically (Gaussian distribution) which ultimately gives a probability of the phenotype existing.

Hey, greenhorn from New England: stretto means genetically reduced to it´s gist...
Selfed or selfed with a (grand-)parent.
In this case it is a three times selfed 935/97.
Above I wrote 98, but this was the year of Gary Burke´s world record with the selfed 935 Lloyd 97. This Burke was selfed in the USA in 2004 and frozen until 2011.
Now I grow my selfed seed from that, and it is a 3-lober!
Nobody likes to grow only 3 lobes, when huge fruits shall be expected, but I need the 3-lober for my crossbreedings with C. moschata like the Lloyd-ellipsoid or Lloydelli.

Stump rotted a month before weighoff on the 220 DeBacco. Daily gains went from 35 to 10 lbs. I really liked both plants.

If they arrive safely in the mail I might be able to grow...

I'm trying to get a couple of crosses with each, hoping for some good genetics!
