What is your preference, attending a live seed auctions via "chat" or bidding on-line via website?
I personally prefer on-line because I don't have to be glued to my computer for hours waiting for that one seed I want. On-line I simply bid what I think is reasonable for the seed I want and see if it holds up. A lot of good deals still to be had at VGPGA on-line auction: http://vermontgiants.tripod.com/auction.html

That depends on upon your specific situation. As an administrator of a club it is far easier to run a two hour live auction than oversee a long drawn out on-line two week auction. I have done all types of club fund raisers from seed sales to seed packs and live to on-line auctions in the past, my preference is live auctions.

I prefer hosting a silent auction to a live auction. One person can run a Silent Auction. for a live Auction to go smoothly you need 3 people with good internet connection willing to put in the time.

Either way fund raising is a lot of work. Today we had 6 of us running the Gvgo auction and featured grower chat. Two people were writing comments and posting about the seeds. One person recording, another corresponding the sales and inserting the lots as text and another observing the flow and then the auctioneer. We also communicated during the auction via Skype and cell phone. But after 4 hours it's done except for mailing the seeds and collecting the monies. If you added up all of the man hours spent leading up to the event I would guess it be well more than 100 hours spent. We had little problems but it sure is a hectic day.
