I just received a seed from a club auction that was broken . Clubs , please spend the extra money so that shippers do not go through the roller system .

It pisses me off when I hear about seeds being crushed. I've started sending seeds bubbled wrapped inside of a bubble envelope with "Fragile." "Hand Cancel" and "No Machine" on both sides of the bubble envelope.
Shipping seeds bubble wrapped inside of a small box is a safer alternative, albeit more expensive.
Postal employees are being pushed to do more faster with fewer people. Damaged merchandise is a frequent result.

Grow for better seed quality! A good seed quality you can only get with mature fruits. But your weighing system forces you to grow bad fruits with maximized fruit water content when harvested. That´s bad growing, when you want to grow for good or even best seed. I have bred a true seed line of your best AG genetics with the 612 Ammer 14 a selfed 1172 Singleton 09, which was a selfed 1385.5 Jutras 07. For a good seed quality I did not fatten the plant and grew on bad soil a spaded up meadow. If I want to fatten a plant, I approve bad seed. That´s a general law of nature. I did not use seaweed or fish, because maritime food brings poisoning enzyme-killers, which enhance growth of the leaves but reduce erythritol in the seed and makes a soft seed shell too.

James, was it packed in a 000 bubble ? They seem to be the only one that fit through a machine..

I put more than enough postage on and wrote 'fragile' 'non machinable' and one still got zipped through the machine and crushed a few weeks back. You may as well assume that safety not guaranteed in the hands of others.

just be sure that the package is thicker then a 1/2 inch then it will get kicked out of the sorter. But it still can have a heavy box thrown on it. making a some PVC seed savers would be a hassle for the all seeds a club would need, but they would be safe. Mine will be. God save the seeds:)

Plus I don't think a machine cares if its marked fra-gile. It only cares if it fits, it gets the rollers. Most mail don't even see human hand until gets delivered.

there is a paid postal worker in there somewhere that has a big rubber hammer probably giant even safety yellow in color just smashing the poop out of these seeds somewhere along the line.
VTSteve can you confirm my suspicion?

I got some seeds from Bubba Pressley in a 000 bubble for the Midwest Pumpkin Growers auction. Not only did they arrive in perfect condition, but the stamps weren't cancelled and there was no postmark. Thank you USPS.

I have been using 0 instead of 000 bubbles even if it is for just one seed and have had no problems yet... Same price to send but bigger bubble doesn't go through machine.. Remember the most important word here was yet.

Spence, the postal machines can be like terminator robots. If you watch a video of sorting machines in action, you'll see they're like mini-guns--100's of letters a second--and once in a while, a jam happens.
Parcels are sorted and tossed by hand, and the fragile stuff can end up with a 75 pound package on top of it, although this is not usually the case.
But no, no one is smashing bubbles with a hammer. There is the occasional disgruntled employee, however.

Norm, 00 bubbles seem to be good, too. So far.

Small boxes for seeds of value would seem to be an easy fix.
