Check out my diary at: http://www.bigpumpkins.com/Diary/DiaryViewOne.asp?eid=232103
Also, the entry before that one.
A user here on BP.com sent me seeds as an experiment, and I sent seeds to him, using this method. It works! Another user here proposed it a few weeks ago.
I think more testing would be needed before trusting three digit seeds ($$$) to it, but this has promise. Not only are you saving about $2.00 in postage, but about $0.50 for the bubble envelope.
So, go out and buy that $150 chop saw and start making rings! ;-)

Another cool thing is that these rings can be used over and over.

My main problem was finding the rings ,they would spit out of the miter saw and roll around the floor, cant move my saw easily

I currently have three great rings from baitman. I sent him several crummy rings that are pretty much worthless.

By the way, the thickness of the pipe helps. Thicker is better.

Ive sent two people some three digit seeds recently. I used 3/4 inch pvc and cut in half lenght wise making a three sided cover. I put the seed and two seeds under the pvc and taped a coin envelope to the pvc keeping the seed in the space. I still shipped in a bubble envelope cause they were Bigtime seeds.Never trust the mail.I just received a white seed request envelope with two clear shoe prints on it-someone clearly was dancing on this envelope.

You can do the same thing with cardboard Just peel off one side & set the seed in the cardboard.works great

I like the cojoe method as it provides a complete PVC cover over the seed and keeps the seed from moving... essentially bomb proof. Thanks for the big-time seed joe!

I've sent over 2 dozen this way with one stamp.I use them in the bubbles too just to be safe. I crammed a bubble full I bet there wont be any damage let me know Scott:).
Plus I ran an envelope over with a car bet you can't do that with cardboard. Use a plywood saw blade or one with a lot of teeth. Clamp a piece of wood to the saw so that each cut is just under 1/4, I use 1" low presser PVC it makes thinner rings for bigger seeds you can bend them for long seed. Then cut a bunch and have the kids chase them all over. Finley I use a sander with fine sand paper. Just to be a perfectionist and yes tape the seed in. The only down fall I have found is the really thick seed after a 1/4" it may get returned. Only one got return to sender :)

I understand one stamp works, but when you are dealing with the perhaps the most important factor in growing, shouldn't one just fork up the extra 2 bucks to make sure it arrives. You'll spend thousands on ferts, mist blowers, irragation systems, cold frames etc but won't pay a couple bucks for a seed? Just my 2 cents...you can put it towards another stamp.

I totally agree Luke. I wouldn't send a 2009 with just one stamp, but I would use the ring plus a bubble. actually I would use a box too.
The single stamp is actually could be proving to be as safe if not safer the a bubble alone. But the idea could help to get an unproven seeds to more growers. Also if the amount of money that could be saved by the clubs when the grower could send them the seeds that would of cost them over $4 for each grower that's what they spend just to get the seeds to them to auction.
