Crazy, Good for them.
It does make mean wonder if we are going to need an "amateur" and a "professional" class for judging in the future.
Of course that's just me saying I hope I can afford to build the new chicken coop.

I imagine they'll have great growing ahead but bet 2014/2015 is going to be a very busy time getting that project set up and completed. Aww inspiring! Think I have a touch of patch envy

A farmer won the lottery and some one asked him what are you gonna do now. He said I'll keep farming until I go broke.

Forget about patch envy. I'm jealous of the big pike in his Nov. 10 diary entry. Its been 30 years since I caught one that big.

I think Ian has it going on alright. Like he said in his diary, the planning for this took many years. I was impressed to hear he did a talk for a master's class for Medwyn Williams.

As with any hobby money is usually the limiting factor however that does not mean there should be separate categories for "amateurs" and "professionals." Besides where would the lines be drawn? If wasn't the Paton's doing this and instead some well known grower in the United States (take your pick) I doubt there would open criticism on this messageboard. This reminds of the grafting debate with watermelons. It was only a debate because it was someone not in the United States.

like i have told john cabot ...Donkin is full of leonardite.Nothing but coal mining here for as long as i remember.Nice to see worms in the patch but castings alone will never grow a 2500lb pumpkin simple as that!!!

Ian and I had our first try for a record pumpkin when we were 13 years old 40 years later our passion is stronger than ever. It's easy to understand why people might be worried about change but our hobby will change. I believe more people around the world have a chance of the record than ever before. We will keep pushing and won't keep any secrets all will be in Ian's diary good or bad as usual. We've been planing the new nursery for 15 years and finally after a lot of hard work it's happening 2015 the big show is coming to Lymington UK. Come and see us and our ideas and lets move our hobby on together Stewie

theres an old saying that applies here "DO THE BEST YA CAN WITH WHAT YA GOT"
just like any other hobby the more you do the more you increase your chances for success.some are content just to fly and others just wanna fly faster.

im not jealous one bit for anyone who can put resourses into accomplishing a goal. in this case a new world record.

just like many other changes we see happening year in and year out creating the perfect growing enviornment is something we would all benefit from.

unfortunately some of us will always be on a dirt track while others fly by on banked paved road.but either way we are having a great time of it for sure.
the clime means much more than the summit.

good luck in 2015 stu and ian
