I'm having a very crappy fall, winter! To most gardening is a way of life, but when you are hit with the news that a parent, or child or wife/ husband have cancer, being in the garden is the last thing on my mind. In Sept. My pap's was diagnosed with pancriatic Cancer. He is a strong fighter but all my extra rescources are going towards his fight which includes time and $$$. I would give up growing Giants to have my dad and 2015 might be a year where I might take off of growing the big ones. Don't have the $ for seeds or fert. I'm not looking for handouts but just stating how ones love for life can quickly overrun anything you hold dear to you!

Be strong, be positive. Lost my Dad from cancer, but he fought it for eighteen years. Family support and good doctors mean the most. You will be in our prayers.....

Cancer hits a lot of families. I never knew one grandmother; cancer took her before I was born. You have your priority straight. I'm praying that your pap makes a full recovery.

I understand what you are saying Roundhead.
I love growing pumpkins and am happy and at peace when I get the time to do so. However, if the important things in your life are not all in place (health, family, relationships etc etc) then the joy of growing just isn't there/valued.
Take care of the important things then growing is just the iceing.
Prayers go out for your dad!

Sorry to hear, I wish the best for him.
Obtain free seeds, and let the soil do the work. Don't worry about the ferts. You might not grow a record, but vine burying is free and a well rooted plant alone will yield some big ones.

Hi Roundhead79 I am sorry to hear about your father. Being out in the garden can be very therapeutic. I recommend growing next year. It doesn't have to be Atlantic giants or anything else for competition. You just need something to get your mind distracted. Engaging in a hobby of some sort will do wonders for you.

My prayers are for your pap and all your family-I guess you give him the support and love you can and as far as the pumpkins you just see how things play out.Let your friends and family support you too.
