funny how history repeats. There was a time not so long ago when i realized that in order to compete with the valley boys and other growers throughout with varied climates that changes would have to be made or find a new hobby .Set out to build 2 greenhouses in 2011 at an expense of $5000! Certain crops can only thrive in certain areas.Funny how all of a sudden there is a possibility of not 1 but 2 categories for growing giant pumpkins...lol

Pap was just speculating, not giving his opinion on the idea of two categories. The giant watermelon growers tried to split the categories between grafted and non-grafted. After the dust settled, it turned out that the only thing that really mattered was the weight of the melon. I would not expect any different for pumpkins.

Do what you can to make your best climate for your growing area.

There wont be 2 category's Its not enforceable. How could you know where it was grown???Us greenhouse growers would be forced into a closet.lol

And what about using hoop houses early in the season? Does that count for greenhouse or not? Or even a small cloche at planting time? Or a bucket over a seedling to protect it from a frost? Or Remay over the vine late in the season also to protect from frost? Who decides what is a greenhouse and what isn't? As one who lives and grows in a very cool area I certainly understand why they are used and if I had the time and cash, I would be right there with the greenhouse crowd.

A pumpkin is still a pumpkin no matter where or how it's grown. Just like the watermelons.

I have grown bigger and healthier melons and pumpkins outside of my greenhouse comparatively to what I have grown inside of it, just my opinion though, but the only thing that really matters is what you show up with for the weighoff

I agree with the Hunts.. No matter if it is in a greenhouse or outside you still have to grow it.
