Are there any competitions with giant fruits from Cucurbita moschata anywhere around the world? If not, we might create them with four categories: cheese, crook, oval and bell I´ve bred a new crook neck variety, which weighs 40 lbs. now. But I would breed it for more weight, if there was any competition.

Sorry, Ludwig. The only competition for jumbo winter squash in Iowa is at the state fair, and only for fruit grown in Iowa and only 1 category. They have 10 categories of winter squash that are judged for looks ad quality, not weight, and in-state only. Only the GPC giant pumpkin competition at the state fair is open to out of state grown fruit. I don't grow for the state fair because the cool micro climate in my deep valley doesn't allow me to have anything ready by early August. Maybe you could check other state fair websites to see if they have giant squash competitions.

Thanks Iowegian. Iowa inspires outside the US...yes, I also do not want to see weight only. I think, that I would have to grow really huge musques before asking again for weight or volume competition. As I said years before: we also could measure squash with laser scanners.
