Everyone is talking about next years hot seeds. Of course if you can get your hands on something from a big winner you got a chance. So I went looking at this years big pumpkins and what they came from. There was one small pumpkin seed that grew a pumpkin about double it's size. there was no info that I could find. Does anybody know who this seed is from? 798 Theobald and could I have one? It got me thinking that my own 471 or 783 could prove it's self next year.

I grew a 979 from a 175lb genetic cross. It's about the genetics but your skill and commitment level are the most important factors.

Yes, Peter, thanks...the 50 Todd.I didn't see anything on Pumpkinfanatic link about the progeny, but if it grew a 1000 pound pkn that would be a 1900% increase.

Maybe next year there could be a side contest of who grew the biggest pumpkin from the smallest pumpkin's seed.

Thad Starr grew a 1,500+ pounder off a seed from a 227 pound pumpkin. The 282 Scherber grew two 1,400+ pound pumpkins this year. The 282 Scherber was a clone/cutting of Ron Wallace's 1725 plant that grew the world record. Obviously the 282 had the genetics in it. The 282 pumpkin was small but it was a late pollination and the pumpkin was grown just for the seeds. 220 DeBacco was the same kind of cross. 1,700+ pound pumpkins from that seed. As stated before, sometimes good things come in small packages.
