It's just about time for the winter seed auctions to start. For those new people that have never attended an auction I thought I would give you a quick rundown of what to expect.

The auctions generally are on Friday, Saturday and sometimes Sunday night at 8 pm. Ken posts upcoming auctions and their list of lots (seeds to be sold) under the "odds and ends" link in the main menu on the home page when he gets them.

Review the lists prior to the auction, do your research on the genetics of seeds you are interested in on http://tools.pumpkinfanatic.com. Asking questions about genetics during the auction causes distractions, which can make it hard to follow what is going on.

Almost all of the auctions have a list of rules, read them and understand them prior to bidding.

in General the rules are:

1. Do not bid unless you are ready to pay the amount of your bid.

2. Post only when you are bidding on a lot. Excess chatter makes it hard to keep up with the bidding.

3. Bid quickly, waiting only draws things out.

4. You must bid higher than the current bid.

5. When the lot is posted, bid in $5 increments.

6. Pay attention to what lot is being sold (know what you are bidding on). The auctioneer will post the lot # and generally the seed name being sold.
